Photobucket images aren't compatible? Also, speed. Nice idea though.

im currently trying to choose what image bookmarking service to settle in with, and i have come to like weheartthis the best -- so first off, thanks for creating a great site

however the speed/availability of the site/service has been a HUGE deterrent as of lately. it takes forever to load my page (if at all) or even pull up the bookmarklet which makes the service unusable

is this a normal occurrence or is this something to only expect at the beginning from a new site with apparent scaling problems / growing pains?

in short, any guess as to when it should be smooth sailing?

thanks for the great work guys

    hello dib,
thanks for using weheartit., i'm really glad you like it.
the problems we're having are only temporary, the site is growing faster than i could expect.
but everything will be normal again a few weeks.
  • dib · 1 year ago
thanks, sounds great, as long as there is light at the end of the tunnel -- good to hear these issues are only temporary

I guess I found a problem in bookmarklet — it does not support images with space in name :((((

I like your site over FFFFOUND and formalista.org and wish you to fix all issues!
  • fabiogiolito · 1 year ago
yay! i'm glad you like weheartit!

everything is being taken care of, and weheartit will be back to normal.

and thanks for noticing this problem on the bookmarklet. i'll take a look at it.
  • macacq · 1 year ago
And one more thing! I've noticed another bookmarklet issue: it fails if the image address looks like this:

    /img.php?id=num

Even if image actually is jpeg.

Fantastic! I'm really looking forward to a faster weheartit!

I also love ffffound, but I think weheartit is very promising. However, there's a problem. Since registration is open, it encourages unwanted behaviour: The more you post, the more you get noticed. So weheartit gets filled with posts from people who post huge amounts of images from their blog, or many images from the same thing etc. And it with time will only get worse...

So I have a suggestion to raise the standards a little: What if there was a limit of five images per user per day? And to encourage tagging, if you manage to tag each one of those five with at least one tag, you get five more images, giving each user a maximum of ten posts. I think we all would benefit from this. The content would be more distinguished, and we'd have more quality in preference of quantity.

Does the "I heart it" button work for Firefox 3 yet?
  • fabiogiolito · 1 year ago
Yes, if you install FF3 it will import the bookmarklet and it works the same way
  • slicknog · 1 year ago
Thanks, I think it was just my own confusion about how the button worked. It seems to work great at popular images sites like ffffound, flickr, deviantart, etc. but whenever i try the button on someone's portfolio site it doesn't seem to work right. Example: Great image i found, http://www.schultesundern.de/files/nicholson_04...

I can't use the heart button there, nor at the page linking to the images:
    http://www.schultesundern.de/files/gallery03.htm

This is happening at many sites that aren't "mainstream"... not sure how i would Heart this image.
  • fabiogiolito · 1 year ago
the image must be on a webpage. so that people can visit the original site.
and it must be bigger than 240x200 pixels

the images on that site are too small, and when you click it it opens the image file, not a page with the image in it...
  • gabi · 1 year ago
i would like to know if there's some kind of limit on we heart it.
i was adding some pictures and suddenly, i couldn't put any more...
  • fabiogiolito · 1 year ago
    no, no limits...
can you tell me your username so i can take a look at what happened?
    thanks

The downtime and slow loading times are getting a bit silly now to be honest. Let's hope the move to Surpass fixes things because knowing Surpass, it'll either make WHI an accessable environment, or you're going to recieve problem after problem... :( .

I use my fav bar in icon-only mode, no text (FF3), and the weheartit bookmarklet doesn't show the site's favicon. think it would be nice to keep easier to use (and FF doesn't allow assigning icons in favorites) :)

Dear Fabio, just singed up today.
I believe the vision of your website is to share images and make an interesting depot and network for image lovers. But there are some serious polluters on weheartit wich i believe make your life as programmer of this site more difficult and distorts the quality feel of your great concept. I have seen members with for example 30 tags and 2460 images, which most of them are the same pic's. There is a loss of quality and i agree with turbo, it will get worse. You should rewrite the register rules and be more specific about the what the meaning of image sharing is on weheartit. Dumping images is for Photobucket. I'm kinda disappointed after seeing and playing with the site for an afternoon. And seeing this post for "fixing problems" dated more than a month ago and being the last news on this blog. I think you are very brave but just one guy and the site is to vulnerable.

    Oh c'mon!

Didn't he say he's doing his best? What else do you want, pal? A quality curator for free? There're other services around, stop trolling and sign up in another place. The weheartit community will appreciate it, for sure.

I just simply can't understand people like you...
